The only things that matter in your relationship with money
We built MoneyGirls because we found preachy old attitudes about money boring and trite. You joined MoneyGirls because you seek to be empowered as you take on mastering your financial future. Beyond being a company, MoneyGirls is a bold mindset for how you take on life. To kick off 2020, let’s check-in with each other on our headspace.
Do you know many guys who say “talking about money is awkward”? Probably not. If they don’t feel weird, neither should you. Trust us, the more you talk about money, the more you understand, and the more self-assured you get.
Our top tips on how to break the barrier:
Lead the ice-breaking -– The questions you have are the same your peers are also wondering about, guaranteed. Almost no one gets good at money in school so chances are your friends are in the same boat. Be the one to bring it up.
Be the question-asker -– There’s 0 reason to pretend you know something if you don’t. Get smart on it! It will obliterate any anxiety gnawing at you.
Make dirty-words cool -– “Savings” and “budgeting” don’t have to be turn-offs terms (though we do like “spending plan” better). Don’t shy away from boldly proclaiming that money matters to you! It sure does to us.
If you’re here, we’re guessing that you’re not into just “winging it.” We’re Type-A, too.
When it comes to growing your dough, there are some aspects that are WITHIN your control and a few OUTSIDE of it . Focus on where you have power. It will take a huge load off of you.
Taking a step is the only way to combat the scaries. Here’s a suggestion: write a list of ALL THE THINGS ABOUT MONEY YOU DON’T KNOW. Cool if that list is 5 things long. Even better if it’s 10. We KNOW that’s daunting for the average person! So we’ll go first.
Here’s the list from a MoneyGirls team member a mere 2 years ago:
Last thing - be crazy generous wherever you can. Tiny acts of generosity with money make a difference to the connections that ultimately bring us happiness.
